Jack Lemmon, 1937
The doctor told Jack that he had to take up cross-country running as a kid in order to overcome many illnesses he suffered in his childhood. He missed a year of school due to tonsillitis and mastoiditis (a rare ear infection). The running lead to him being one of the quickest runners in two-mile sprints.
With his mother Millie in 1935 (aged 10)
I find it quite hard to believe he couldn’t get many girlfriends in high school. I mean, were they blind :/
At the age of eight at Riverdale County Day School - where he attended with (the future) President John F Kennedy, who was a few years older than him.
How I would love to see a school photo with them both in. This must exist somewhere.
Awesomely, they kept in touch from school until Kennedy’s death in 1963.
